These two systems are both effective, but the ARTAS system has some important benefits for patients. The physician-guided robotic system harvests healthy hair grafts and no area is “over-harvested.” The 3D mapping feature is another strong benefit. FUE is “follicular unit extraction.” It refers to a procedure in which single hair follicles are harvested, rather than a surgical removal of a strip of scalp from the back of the head – which leaves a scar.

For those who don’t want to be left with a linear scar on the back of the head, (such as people who like to wear a short hairstyle), and who want a particularly natural look, FUE is far superior, particularly with the ARTAS robotic system or NeoGraft.

In the FUE procedure, healthy hair follicles are harvested one by one. The healthy follicles that are not programmed for balding are on the back and sides of the head. This leads to a very blended look after the follicles are transplanted to the thinning or balding area.

The FUE procedure is not particularly painful, with less discomfort and a faster recovery than traditional “strip” hair transplant procedures – and does not leave a linear scar.

This is a physician-assisted robotic system that has taken FUE technology to a new level. A robotic arm harvests the follicles, directed by imaging software so that no area of the scalp is over-harvested.

The recovery from the procedure is typically a week to ten days. You may experience redness, swelling, and crusting. After a few weeks, the transplanted hairs fall out – this is normal. In three to four months, the follicles then begin producing natural hair.
